是否可分享一下Austin對於學生在找工作或實習時，學校面有沒有提供什麼樣的幫助，或是學校有沒有很多recruiting的活動呢？

第一個問題這麼說好了
如果想找energy跟technology方面的工作
在UT絕對有主場優勢，印象中去年在Dell實習的就有不少人
但想找什麼地方的intern是看你自己怎麼決定的
我個人就不會找德州的...前陣子還找到日本去了 哈哈

第二個問題
學校方面對學生找工作方面提供很多幫助...有時有點太超過
你不用擔心這個問題
第一我們在第一學期強迫要上一門career planning
就是教你改resume, CV還有練習interview
連怎麼找公司都有....你說會不會太誇張?
個人覺得有好有壞，把每個人都弄成一模一樣還頗蠢
第二幾乎每星期都會有brief & meets，都是跟recruiter networking的場合
第三每個人都會有一個二年級的peer advisor，你可以跟他討論工作的問題甚至未來的方向

個人目前在NYC大冒險
被冷了一個星期後，對TX的溫暖氣候很感恩....
快來申請UT吧 :laugh

I would like to pursue an investment banking/ private equity position following my MBA. I have some qustions about the learning experience in finance field.

1.It is said that the accounting in McCombs is really famous. What's the competitive edge in McCombs?

2.Can you share with me what the role that the Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst Center play is in Private Equity specialization?

3.Have you ever participated in Academic Challenges? Can you share the experience with me?

Hey Mike,

1. If recruiters need accounting professional, they can easily recruit MPA students. I don't think accounting reputation of McCombs would help MBA students a lot. I am quite interested in why you would have this concern. Can you tell me your thoughts?

2. Now, we are taking prerequisite for finance. I am sorry that I don't know much about HMTF. Here is the link for HMTF: http://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/hmtfcenter/
If you are really interested in IB, especially private equity, you can take courses of HMTF in 2nd year.

3. I participated two challenges, global business and finance. cy6077 also participated operation and finance. BTW, cy6077 and I were in the same team for finance challenge. Here is my blog for finance challenge. It was a great experience.

一件更high的事

上次跟阿三和泡菜去的challenge是global business challenge
上星期台灣人自己組了一隊去finance challenge
上星期很累...白天上課 下午 study team meeting 晚上再做challenge的case 再更晚一點趕功課....
整個就沒力....
幸虧我們這個team實力組合起來很平均
最後反覆辨證出來的presentation power point看起來真的很不錯
星期四晚上弄到早上三點
星期五早上七點半sign up，每個人都還是昏迷狀態
10點半正式上台，在這之前又練習了好幾次presentation
總共有30多組，分成五個房間，每個房間選第一名進final
結果在我們進judge room前，上一組還在Q&A，完全是個被裁判電到不行，我在門外都聽到裁判高分貝的質詢，嚇得我心臟都快跳出來了
結果出乎意料地還算平順地結束，present時我有一瞬間頭腦空白....之後Q&A時才回神
評審們對我們的東西似乎頗滿意，除了有個東西我們想錯外，其他都很好(聽到時整個心花怒放)，當然也給了預期中presentation skill可以再加強的comment

中午有供餐，吃完我們想說等公布進final的team後就可以回家睡覺了
聽啊聽，怎麼有個疑似我們的隊名被唸出來....
哇....真的是欸，媽呀 整個high到快飛起來
之後馬上衝去空房間裡再準備，早上被抓到的錯要怎麼改說詞(power point不能改，只能改presentation....這塊又是我負責的....汗)
最後的final在mccombs最有名的Investment fund裡
final跟預賽完全不一樣，下面坐滿recruiter，每個人看起來都很尖銳的感覺
不過這次我知道自己在講什麼了....哈哈 Q&A時還太兇......
presentation完就有前面幾組的人跑來跟我們哈拉，老外真的很喜歡講客套話
像是我覺得你們的分析真的很solid和I am so proud of you 之類的balala....
後來就等啊等....等到公布名次，拿了一個第四名喔~~
進final的只有我們全部是國際學生喔
私下跟有些recruiter抬摃，他們說每個人都說我們做的東西最好，不過final時要看得東西比重不一樣
但無所謂，能進final我已經很開心
至少證明了我們沒比別人笨，只是英文沒人家好

你們好,我是剛拿到Texas Austin的offer的新生,十分期待能加入你們!

學校有邀請新生參加4/10-4/12的Preview weekend,
我正在想要不要從台灣飛過去看看學校及同學,
因為德州對我來講還是挺陌生的,
我正在努力找資料破除過去的刻板印象.....(謝謝cy6077提供的pic.)
加上去德州唸書可能得面對和另一半分隔兩地的辛苦,
所以目前我還在掙扎中,希望能找到更多原因讓我下定決心念這家學校!

由於此趟想必所費不貲,所以想請教各位學長姊們,
該活動有哪些特點值得參加?對於我選校會有很大的幫助嗎?
我可以預期有哪些收穫,及應該有哪些準備?

另外我想請問對international student來說,
除了入學獎學金,有其他獎學金可以申請嗎?
往後擔任助教或在校打工的機會高嗎?

為了讓己決定的同學能先一步接觸到有關學校的訊息,以及爭取那些尚未決定的潛在新生們,多數學校都會舉辦類似"Preview weekend"的活動. 對於國際學生而言,專程飛來美國一趙參加一場Preview weekend的活動似乎不符合ROI. 我建議你可以找current students搜集資訊可能收穫會更大些. Mcfish 和我都會樂意回答你的問題的. My E-mail: cy6077@gmail.com.

在校園內要找TA, PA等校園打工的機會並不少,獎學金的部份,據我所知,資源就有限了,我想這是因為我們是B-school的關係吧!

另外回覆另一問:

歷年來台灣學生在McCombs內的比例是每年1-4人, 相較於其他名校而言,我們是顯得勢力單薄了些. 不過我們的優點是Alumni network做得還不錯:記得有一回第一次打電話給一位2003畢業的校友,她人非常和善,一談就花了快三刻鐘的時間.
McCombs這個品牌在U.S.是還算響亮的,目前在上海也有了校友會的組織.總的來看是值得投資的.

May I also ask about the work placement and internship situation of Taiwanese alumni in the past few years?

Do these alumni usually stay in US or return to Asia for work? What kind of industries?

Besides, how does McCombs help international students find interns or jobs outside of Texas? Do students usually have to travel to another city for interviews?

哈 來插個花 我目前在德州工作 有同事就是Texas MBA @ houston and dallas 出來的 我常常聽他們聊天 具我所知 他們的教授跟Austin MBA的教授是一樣的 教授好像每個星期五和六會travel到Houston or Dallas 教課

就業系統也和Austin一樣 我同事當時就是開車去Austin面試我們公司的

不過這兩個program 都是 part-time MBA, 他們都是邊工作邊念書, 也因此班級比較小, 國際學生的人數也非常少

我也常常聽他們提到global track 的事情 好像這三個program都會一起辦.. 例如我一個同事是dallas, 一個同事是houston, 另一個是Austin full time的, 但是他們都一起去china...

其實我不是UT的學生啦...如果有說錯的, 還請UT的指正囉...

The MBA Career Services organizes several treks for students interested in careers outside of Texas. For example, treks held in 2007-2008 include: Wall Street Investment Banking Trek, Dallas Consulting Trek, and San Francisco/Bay Area Trek.

*Web sites
Through the job board "Going Abroad", you can find positions across the U.S and 23 other countries worldwide.

*Internships & Job placements
about 60% in Southwest, while 5% outside the U.S.

這應該是Princeton Review對整體大學的ranking 據我的了解是以survey的方式 比較subjective

reefer madness --> 大麻在campus上氾濫的程度

Students pack the stadium -->字義上就是學生把體育館擠爆，也就是說這學校的學生有沒有school spirit

學校很有效率的在當天就寄出Package,
並且提供線上資料庫供檢索,
我大概在一週後收到包裹,
必須在4/25前決定是否take offer...
不過還沒有拿到任何scholarship通知...

因為Texas是採Rolling制的,
我想有面試就代表有機會的,
