I don’t know what your definition for “suburb” is, but a 217.6 KM drive would not be short for me. That’s almost from Taipei to Chiayi City.

I don't know much about UIUC, so I'm making comments purely according to my experience with the Broad MBA, especially in Finance. Overall, the career service at the Broad MBA is good. I believe the CSC even pays more attention to international students. However, as you may know, MSU is a top SCM school rather than a strong finance one; thus, the Broad MBA is, in terms of career resources, relatively weak in Finance compared to in SCM. Both the number of recruiting companies and interview opportunities are less for Finance students than those for SCM majors, and they are relatively regional. However, from what I've observed, as long as you try "hard enough" and well prepare yourself (resume, pitch...), the odds for you to get enough interviews to locate an Finance offer are still pretty good. Then the issue is whether you can (or have the chance to) get exactly what you want (e.g. company, compensation, region…). If you have a list of companies that you definitely want to go, then you better make sure if they regularly recruit from the Broad MBA.

Most of the finance positions offered to the Broad MBAs are in Corporate Finance "at the corporate side", which means they might be more accounting-based at some level, depending on which function you are among the finance team. As for Consulting, we do have students get into Mckinsey but that's some extreme case that you don't wanna take it for your consideration. Most consulting positions are from IBM Consulting, Oracle Consulting, and other SCM-focused Consulting firms, and they do recruit international students with SCM or Finance or both concentrations.

Average Compensation is very competitive, considering the low tuition/living costs of the program. If you can get scholarship/GA/TA/Int'l tuition waiver, you can even spend less than NT$1 million for two years, not to mention with internship. Here (http://mba.msu.edu/careers/comp_salaries/salary.cfm) you can find the compensation data and recruiting companies for last few years in different industries/functions. My rough estimate for this year's average compensation is over $90,000 for all second-years. If you look at Chinese students (excluding ABC's) only, the number is even higher mainly due to SCM offers given by some big names (such as MSFT, Apple, Cisco) from the coasts, where living costs are much higher than most other regions in US. For Chinese students in Finance (not many actually), my guess is at the same level with the overall.

In sum, the CSC at the Broad MBA has a good reputation in placement; however, like many others have put it, it is still individual's responsibility to make his/her every effort to find a good job. When you go to the MBA and get occupied (or even overwhelmed) by all the readings, cases, team meetings, homesickness, and other s**t stuff, could you still be as determined as you are right now to develop your career in US?

Finally, congrats on your admissions to these two schools and welcome to the BigTen Family!
