About USC online application satus

帖子slm7f » 2008-01-15 07:10

I had submitted for round 1 of Univ. of Southern California--Dec. 1, 2007 and all my application had already arrived at USC.

But the online application status still suggest that it is imcomplete. It's been almost 2.5 months. I called the admissions office at this number (213) 740-7846. and the only I got was "The admissions office will contact you."

Did anyone encounter similar situation? What can I do to see if any material is missing? I have no idea why it takes so long to even update the online satus.

Thanks.

Yes, I am in the same situation. The school just replied me saying "it takes several weeks to update the online status." I submitted everything including GMAT official score and transcript in early Nov and right now the status still indicates "incomplete".

Only thing I can say is that the school is probably REALLLLY busy.

As long as you make sure you've handed in everything, don't worry about the online status. Marshall usually has an Asian interview tour in early March. If you receive an invitation by February, you should be good to go

As cburger said, Marshall usually conduct interviews for round 1&2&3 together in Taiwan in March. Please don't worry too much about the online status if you make sure they already got your stuff. However, I will tell admission office this issue and ask them try to update status quickly.

Aaron and Mark,

This method is a bit unfair in my perspective to interview all perspective students at once because R1 applicants have to wait 4 months before they hear back from school for an interview decision and lose the advantage of submitting earlier. (Then what is the purpose of having "stage admission"?)

Anyways, good luck to everyone.

It sounds unfair to me too. I had used a lot of my valuable time to meet the deadline, which I could have spent on other schools.
And now, I am told I will be interviewed with applicants in later round in March. That's 4 months of waiting period. Can someone please deliver this message to adcom?
Is it possible I can request on campus interview, and it's would be my pleasure to fly to LA, and conduct interview there.
Waiting is really tough!!!

This is USC's usual practice.

There is no advantage applying to USC in Rd 1 from Taiwan.

Too many people just blindly assume that applying to Rd 1 to any school is naturally good.

Anyway, for future applicants....remember there is NO NEED to rush.

Don't all school encourage applicants, especially the international ones to sumbit in the earlier rounds? This has to do with many other planings as well. In USC website, it doesn't mention anything about such practice of conducting a batch-style interview. If so, I won't complain about it. Yet, I cannot accept an answer of "usual practice" as the excuse of providing lousy services. Not to mention that USC has a school rep center in Taipei.

Rather RUSH or not, it has nothing to do with submitting in R1 or R2. Some of people might have a early start with their preparation works and submit their applications in R1. Hence, I cannot agree using USC's "usual practice" as an example of not rushing to submit applications. :)

Anyways, I will keep my finger crossed and look forward to hearing back from the school. May the force be with all of USC applicants!

Hi all,

I will just offer my experience with my USC application:

Submitted: Round 2 (early Jan)
Interview Date: Mid March
Decision Date: late March

I am not sure if USC will batch all early round applicants to March. What I am sure is that the Associate Dean of Admission will do an Asian trip in March for interviewing. I do believe if your qualifications and experience are exceptional, and you apply in the early rounds, you will get a faster response.

*edit I believe USC is doing a rolling admission. So applying early doesn't necessarily means getting an answer early. You just get more chances of being looked at.

To imagenooks:
I can see your points. Actually I had similar feeling when I applyed last year.

I think the reason Marshall adcom conduct interview for Taiwanese R1~R3 applicants together is that the adcom hope to conduct interview directly by themselves in Taiwan. Since it's almost imposibble for them to fly to Taiwan in each round, they usually choose to wait till March to interview in Taiwan. Other ways that work are alumni or phone interview; However, unfortunately, they typically don't do alumni and phone interview in Taiwan.

The R2 decision will be notified at the end of March as scheduled, and Early Round will also match the notification date cause the adcom could arrange interviews during MBA Tour in Taiwan. The biggest problem is, as you mentioned, for R1 applicants who have to wait and be interviewed and notified decision with R2s.

Here are what the school say about interview and notification on the wesite:

"Interviews are granted only through the discretion of the Admissions Committee. Applicants chosen to interview will be contacted via e-mail or by phone. Interviews may take place on campus, off campus or by phone. Members of the Admissions Committee may interview some international students by invitation at international recruiting events."

"Notification dates may vary for international and dual degree candidates."

I think they should state more clear about the interview policy for int'l applicants. Again, I can see your points. I will talk with adcom and hope they will make some changes.

To wwwwoooo:
I think you can schedule an on-campus interview. I remember last time a Taiwanese came visiting the campus and interview with adcom.

Good Luck to All!

Thanks Aaron and cburger.
I think there is nothing wrong with USC to conduct Taiwanese interview in March.
However, (this is just my opinion) for applicants submit in early round, I believe we should receive fair treatment like other international applicants. We should receive interview invitation on time, and let us to choose whether to interview on campus or wait till March.
I think batching all applicants in R1 R2 and R3 is not fair. R1 applicants should be considered to compete with R1 applicants only, not with later round. (It is my choice if I want to wait until March)
My point is, just release taiwanese interview invitation on time like most international and domestic applicants(someone already got it), and give us the chance to choose. Whether we fly to LA or wait until March.

Hi legnawen,

Fight On!
