分享心得遲了點，但是還是希望能夠提供未來申請的朋友一些參考

Profile:
GMAT 710
Work experience:
5 yrs (2yrs military), last was PM in a high-tech company

申請結果:
2006~2007 second round
Admitted:
Indiana University – Bloomington (Kelley) --- Accept offer
Ohio State University (Fisher)
University of Minnesota – Twin Cities (Carlson)

Rejected:
University of Michigan – Ann Arbor (Ross)
Duke University (Fuqua)
University of Texas – Austin (McCombs)

感覺申請上競爭比前一年(06)激烈，不過還是能申請到各方面都很均衡的Kelley
申請過程中最困難的(除了GMAT…)就是選校及Essay撰寫了，我並沒有找代辦，我認為傷咖的許多文章討論對我幫助非常大，節省很多摸索時間，但是我要特別感謝"大衛"(davidlee), 大衛在課業繁忙中仍熱心抽空幫助我!

簡單來說選校及Essay撰寫就是圍繞著”Fit”，在進入Kelley這幾週以來，我越來越能夠體會大衛當初再三提醒Fit的重要性，大衛當初對Kelley的認識，也非常的正確
大衛也幫助我釐清許多申請的迷思，幫助我了解各校的資源強弱，讓我順利錄取理想的學校

心得: FIT真的非常重要! 建議多思考自己的興趣結合可以提供資源的Program, 並和校友請教該校的文化及學校發展方向

想請教樓主與David, 在自己申請學校的狀況下，究竟有什麼訣竅或是可以作為評估的criteria，來挑選所謂"fit"的 B school呢?

終於抽出時間可以回覆這篇

簡單來說可以分為三步驟:
1. 了解自己 Explore yourself:
分為a,b,c三個細項

a. 自己現在在哪: 檢視自己的學歷背景到工作經驗是如何轉折
挖出自己在一般五年左右的工作年資中
有何優勢與成就
這些成就在管理價值鏈裡的各大領域中
市場,業務,行銷,財務,經濟統計,供應鏈,作業管理,策略,人資,領導學,創業...etc.
分別是哪些領域強哪些領域弱
找出自己的多邊形

b. 未來要去何方: 自己的生涯興趣與長短程目標動機到底為何
職業生涯由三項主要項目構成: 性格,興趣,與能力
三項有因果關係 前兩項會造成第三項 也有可能一三項造成第二項
從自己的這三項職涯要素中找出未來方向
可依照縱向產業別與橫向職務別來交叉 如IT產業的產品研發經理
找出具體長短程目標為何

c. 隔閡分析 Gap analysis: 從上頭a項的"現在"到b項的"理想地"之間差了什麼
中間所欠缺的東西需要什麼來補足
為什麼會出現想要進修商學研究所的動機
又需要商學研究所中的哪塊或哪幾塊系統知識與實務訓練
才能真實的達到生涯理想地


2. 課程選擇與媒合 Find the fit program:
當深度自我了解之後
自身強項與弱項所呈現的多邊形
與理想目標之間的隔閡所呈現的gap area
就成為尋找學校特性的比對基準

運用這個gap area
找出你所需要的主要元素
再配合AT分數即可鎖定特定定位學校

例如:
AT 670 三年產品經理經驗 對供應鏈有興趣
想以行銷為導向的供應鍊管理
則可以選擇MSU的Marketing & Supply Chain concentration

AT 650 兩年半廣告經驗
想走企業端產品行銷
可以選UNC Customer & Product Management concentration

AT 690 四年四大事務所經驗
想在會計領域晉升高階經理
可以選UT-Austin, UIUC

AT 710 五年消費性品牌經理
要挑戰世界級品牌管理
西北凱洛格 Wharton MIT 維吉尼亞達頓 Kelley

原則上找出個人方向與鎖定學校特性後
用AT分數即可逼進出四到六所左右的學校
再針對這些關鍵目標學校各各擊破

學校特性可由交叉比對學校課程,ranking,與essay及推薦信等題目中找出

P.S. 托福是一定要過105滴


3. Brand yourself 個人品牌行銷
針對目標學校的特性進行策略研擬
分為幾個階段
a. 列出各校的具體招生需求
由於在第二階段已經選出適合學校
現在需要深度了解學校需求
已確立個人品牌行銷方向

同樣藉由交叉比對細部課程內容,essay題目,推薦信題目
來找出學校招生方向
列出細部元素
ex: MIT 強調teamwork 與 innovative leadership
Columbia 強調entrepreneurial leadership 與finance
Harvard 強調organizational restructure 與 corporate entrepreneurship

b. 列出自身各項媒合籌碼與條件
將所有武器全數陳列

c. 依照個人品牌精華元素找出行銷傳播主軸
將個人所有武器以單一品牌主軸貫串
完整鏈結至學校特性需求
將個人品牌與名校品牌結合至極大綜效
以倒金字塔結構進行陳述

MBA個人品牌行銷即告完成


簡單總結是3大步驟
1. Explore your career
從學經歷找出自己的興趣方向
分析自我現狀與未來理想目標中間的gap
以歸結進修動機與方向

2. Fit the program
依照自身優勢定位與興趣動機
配合AT分數範圍找出屬性適切的獨特定位學校

3. Brand yourself to the fit program
找出目標學校的細項需求元素
列出自身所有符合條件與成就
每校以最佳品牌主軸貫串所有武器
以倒金字塔商業寫作模式進行全力個人行銷

How to use this Career Assessment Sheet efficiently by yourself:

1. fulfill your birth year, count how many years did you work for
2. fulfill your scores, your undergrad/major, and GPA, compare these with the general average scores for perspective schools
3. fulfill your work experience, specify the job functions and industries. If you transfered job(s), find out the "correlative feature(s)" among these jobs. eg: the same industries, the same focus on quantity, the same in dealing with people...etc.
4. fulfill your club experience (if applicable), find out the "correlative feature(s)" with job feature(s). Find out is there any connection with feature(s) in your academy and/or work experience.
5. fulfill your interests and leisure activities

LEAVE the short/long-term goals, career drive, and motivation BLANK at this moment.

now, THINK.

According to the Recognition Harmony theory in psychology
when ever you're making decision in every "turning point"
most of the time your recognition mechanism needs to be balanced
either consciously or subconsiously
it's a very practical and powerful mechanism that you might never notice that.

THINK BACK to each "turning point" in your pass, deeply.
what's the real reason behind your rationale to make that change?
what's the pros and cons you considered at that moment?
what's the maximized benefit you chose? why?

If you have more than two twisting points (from campus to your jobs)
compare them if there's any correlative trait?

Than you'll dig out some "real" motivatons and "real" goals
it may be strange that sometimes they're different from what you think at the begining

Try to specify these motivations and goals
then check if your career path are connected
if yes, CONGRADULATIONS!! you can write your essays right now!

if no, there must be something invisible and hiding somewhere.
because your subconsciousness should be connected and continuous.
Then try some other turning points. The "inspiring spot" must be hiding somewhere, or you would not be where your position right now.
