在咖啡店很少看到大家在討論Indiana University--Bloomington (Kelley)這間學校, 整體排名還可以大概在20名左右, 強項是在finance及marketing, 在美國就業也還不錯, 但是好像知名度稍低一點, 不知道大家對於這間學校有啥麼看法或意見嗎?

還是可以請davidlee0222大大也出來做個像groegetown一樣的精闢的分析呢? 感謝感謝~~

The Kelley school has strong reputation in marketing. It may help you find jobs in corporate finance, but probably not in IB / Consulting. Its admissions director James Holmen argued that those major in marketing have better job prospect mainly because marketing recruiters tend to kick start head-hunting earlier. According to information enclosed in IU website, I saw two Taiwanese students with major in finance; perhaps they can clarify on this...

Other advantages of IUB include:
- teaching quality : ranked 1st by Princeton Review; graded A+ by BW
- close-knit core courses are also praised
- among 5 most beautiful campuses in the US; great facilities

I also learned from James Holmen that although Kelley's international student % has been on the rise for the last couple of years, he expected it to hold at around 35% in the future.

Lots of what I posted here is merely 2nd hand information, so I would also look forward to hearing from the current students.

According to my old information (2004 BW), Kelley is ranked at 10th in Finance, and is ranked at 8th in Marketing. Although now I don't have the latest information about its specialized ranking, I believe that Kelley is also good at marketing~

But, I really concern about Kelley's Finance field, its reputation in Taiwan, and its career service. Because I am the only child in my family, it is very possible for me to come back Taiwan and to find a job here. As far as I know, Kelley is not as famous as Purdue, UIUC, or other top B-schools, is easy to find a good job in Taiwan?

Even if I don't want to find a job in Taiwan, is it also good enough to find a good job in U.S.? Of course, I know that ranking is just one kind of reference, and finding a good job mainly depends on your capability. But, I don't know why Kelley seemingly does not have as famous as other top B-schools, although it is ranked at 18th in BW and at 23th in US News? Owing to its bad location? In addition to Marketing, can any one tell me other strengths of Kelley?

According to info I gathered, the Kelley School tends to attract more consumer goods companies (P&G, Johnson & Johnson, etc.) to look for brand/product management and corporate finance positions. Also, it is simply a "regional" school, ie. its prestige could hardly reach outside the Mid-West region.

I don't think I'm the right person to help you make a decision, but a knowledgeable and candid guy such as Mark might help.

1.Kelley is one of the best regional school for sure, I will say it is one of the best second tier school in my own ranking
2.The recruitor list is much more better than UIUC for sure. 無意冒犯 UIUC的同學. Kelley在當地幾乎是最好的學校, UIUC附近有兩家M7, 老實說 這沒法打 完全是個現實問題
3. Kelley要幫你在local find a job綽綽有餘. 只要你個人能力fit, Kelley這家學校的reputation可以幫你拿到不少corporate fin的interview機會,剩下就是靠你自己了

4. 我必須老實建議樓主 直接回台的話,Top15之外大概沒甚差異 Consulting跟IB都很難跟Top15競爭
as for those local hire 的雇主......
他們分不太清楚學校等級 給你的薪水也不會太高
你有沒有想清楚自己要什麼 --> 很重要
五十步跟一百步好像差很多 --> 實際上差很少
你最後在台灣要是拿到citi, ubs, hsbc 之類的MA MT -->那是靠你個人實力 跟學校加分無關 選這幾家跟你在台灣念NTU NCCU分別不會太大 都是拿到一張可以去interview的門票

想請問modern大大 對於唸UIUC而想在美國找工作的同學 有沒有建議呢? 該怎麼辦?
覺得對UIUC討論有點少 我看了employment list 的確去recruit的公司很少
學校CSC的人在chat room也直接挑明說Int'l students還是要英文能力(that's for sure) 除此之外他們好像並未對學生有特別措施

1. 就我所知, Kelley在當州很好找工作, 似乎是因為當州政策的關係, 也是因為當地的企業很愛用當州學生, 所以才導致就業很不錯, 像是Purdue也是很好找工作的學校, 真的是這樣嗎?

2. UIUC雖然有兩間M7學校擋著, 但是應該在當州仍然知名度很高, 很好找工作吧? 如果不是, 又是否是因為所在位置較靠近內陸的關係呢? 可能公司大多都在東西岸招募人才, 較少進入中西部~~

3. 如果真的這麼說起來, 如果不是TOP 15, 想要在NY或是一些其他大城市找到好工作好像真的很難耶~~~更不要說是找IB或是Consulting了~~, 如果在當州找工作, 是否也有機會找到像是IB或是Consulting這樣性質的工作呢? 還是大概就只能走corporate finance了?

4. 這樣說起來, 如果要回台灣從事finance, 又不是TOP 15的學校, 似乎就只能強化自己的能力了, 像是讀Rochester或是Georgetown這類財務較強的學校, 等回國時再跟大家一爭高下吧~~競爭真的是很激烈阿~~~

1.與其說政策不如說local的最好用的MBA學生都在這兩校 一者強在mkt, corp fin 一者強在op mgt, scm 剛好跨到製造業最需要的職能
往這方面就業自然會容易

2.UIUC"念會計master"畢業很好找工作
拿MBA的話 well, I doubt 詳情請看BW career 資料 (以上指stay in the state) I don't think we can land a job easily while even local students got " soso " result.

回台灣的話我相信因為alumni network多到爆炸 應該在各產業(尤其金融業)都有辦法靠校友network獲得一些機會 如何利用要靠個人能力

3. MBA的求職本就是elite社會 好工作難不難端看你對"好"這個字的定義
個人能力特強的人就算學校差一些還是有機會land a job in IBs, MCs 但那真的很難 Top15是拿到面試門票的保障 拿到之後進不進的去
還是看個人

4. well, it also depends on demand side. 市場需求高的時候 缺多 競爭就容易些
02, 03年出來的根本是哭死 一堆Top Top Top好學校也land不到IB consulting jobs因為根本沒缺
