[問題]我這樣能申請到什麼樣的學校?

各位大大:

我的現況是托福CBT 237，GMAT 640(M50，V26)，大學GPA 2.88，研究所GPA 4.0，工作經驗合計五年多快六年。我本來是念土木工程的，所以之前從事的工作都跟商無關。我是想最好能申請美國前二十名的學校，有可能嗎?還是有人能給我一些建議呢?謝謝!

因為剛考完GMAT，在考慮十二月還要不要再考一次，很爭扎，因為邊上班邊準備真的好累，過去一年準備了托福和GMAT，但都沒有考得很理想，不知道五年多的工作經驗和台灣研究所的GPA能不能有些幫助?

I am still in the process of my application so just to provide u with my personal opinions. Actually ur undergrad GPA is kinda of nightmare like mine(haha) but ur graduate GPA is astounding. What u need to work out is how to explain ur low undergrad GPA to the adcom.

Your background and working experience is different from normal applicants, in my opinion it could be an advantage for u as all as a detriment, depending on how u weave all the stories into the essay to show that u have justified reasons to pursue an MBA as well as demonstrate ur characteristics such as leadership potential, teamwork and maturity so on and so forth. Just back from the Wharton reception yesterday though I may decide not to apply Wharton. Remember one of the alum said that adcom have to review thousands of applications,
it would be refreshing if they can see one with unique backgrounds and great story from the rest of the non-core industries(sorry to put it this way). So dun be afraid.

If ur material(essays) is at least par or superior to those in Finance/consulting backgrounds, ur background would be an plus for u for sure.

As for GMAT and Toefl, if u target at a top 20 school, my personal suggestion is to retake both of them to enhance your chance since the grades these days are getting higher and higher. I personally retook the GMAT once three months ago while still working at the same time, so u can make it. I am not saying u can not try top 20 with your current score, but the chance is just not always there for u though there are always exceptions(hope u get what I mean here)

Thank you for your concise opinion. However, I am not sure whether I have time to take both GMAT and TOEFL again because I want to apply 2007 MBA. The deadline is coming. If I take the tests again, another one month needs to wait for AWA scores. I'm afraid of missing the deadline.

I'm so confused now.

But I still appreciate your suggestion. I will consider.

說實在的, 雖然GMAT不算低, 但是要伸請top20, 我想還是很勉強吧! 再加上Toefl也沒達到標準, 很多學校都有規定Toefl的下限(250), 沒達到這個, 他們連看都不看你的essay.
所以能的話, 趕快都再考吧, 如果你要前30或40 , 又或者伸請歐洲的top10, 那還蠻有 希望的.

640 isn't even close to the story
not to mention TOEFL
250 is required while 263+ is generally essential
even though you have 5 yrs work experience with full GPA in master
struggled badly in your undergrad would be a potential drawback
almost every top20 applicant has around 700 with 5 yr experience
mostly with Fortune 500 "big boys" experience and associate ganagerial position
the only way may be a roughly 700 GMAT score and a 263+ TOEFL
and you need a clear inspiration about your career logic
why MBA?

關於david大哥說的, 我認同這是一條穩紮穩打的申請道路
但是我這裡有的小小的經驗可以跟大家分享喔
MBA 是個開拓視野, 針對不同需求的學生提供ㄧ個很好的學習環境
但是,它是建立在business school 下面的program
它會收這些gmat很高的學生,也會收他認為他將來會很有前途(或錢途)的學生喔
因為我個人職業生涯規畫 我選擇了申請MBA春季班
我托福260, Gmat 610 , 工作經驗4年, 我在口試中告知我未來在大陸即將在畢業後接掌的職位,
羅徹斯特大學收了我, 也給了我15%的獎學金
我希望藉此鼓勵大家, 在拼gmat 地過程中, 也許太過追求高分, 不如好好的思考你未來在職場上的位置, 讓他知道並相信你可以"賺大錢",
前三十不是夢想喔!!!

謝謝各位提供寶貴的意見給我，讓我重新思考我的申請之路。

我新的想法是，因為我到明年中就有將近六年的工作經驗，這應該是我很好
的優點，當然如果我的GMAT能再高一點，比如660，會更有機會，對嗎?
不過，我想我最主要的弱點是我的托福成績不到250，導致我想申請TOP 20
的成功率很低。

可是現階段申請載止日期已近，如果要等到重考完後再申請，又怕錯過載止
日期，所以我想是否我可以先準備其他文件，像讀書計劃、推薦信等，十二
月中，我已經有報名GMAT，再考一次，希望可以考到660以上，然後我就
在第三輪大約一月初時，先把申請文件寄出去。然後趕快準備IBT，希望能
在四、五月的時候去考，如果能有100分，我再跟學校UPDATE我的托福成
績，如果原本學校已經把我REJECT，我再請學校重新考慮我的申請，因為
我的托福成績可以達到標準。

不知道這樣的想法是否可行，再請大家提供寶貴的建議給我。

其實，我覺得你的AT不是問題，沒有重考的必要，一般top 20只要進入mid 80% (多數學校的標準是640+)，應該是安全範圍之內，在這個基礎上，只要把application準備好，要進入前20還是非常有希望的。

至於托福，如果有時間重考的話，還是重考一下比較好，畢竟MBA很需要討論與理解的，加強英文能力對將來上課的吸收也很有幫助。

I think at this moment you re-test TOEFL rather than GMAT.
TOEFL is convinced ADCOM that you can contribut your work experience in classes.
Moreover, the most key point now is not your score. Now you have to focus you essay. Let them know who are you? What special you are? If you are really special, I think you can get Top 20!

真是非常謝謝大家熱心的意見 我真是太感動了。

我真是為我的GMAT感到可惜，就差一點點，在那個尷尬的地帶。
要不要重考真是讓我很難決定，因為我也怕再考一次，如果考砸了，豈不更糟。但不重考看看能不能考高一點，又怕擠不進TOP20的窄門。不過看了Charleneshen和lpwpete的回覆，讓我又燃起了一點希望，真是感謝。

我真後悔五、六月的時候沒有繼續考CBT，考到250以上為止。不知現在是
不是真的沒有CBT可考了?因為IBT的難度真的高了不少，如果現在要準備
IBT，可能會來不及申請。

請問我前面提到的，先送申請再update成績的作法可行嗎?

這就不一定了！有些學校（尤其是前面的學校）會要求再app. form 時，就把全部的考試考完
有一些則是可以接受晚一點在補成績

主要還是要看你申請的學校！！！當然，我覺得這可以凹凹看！

另外, 我建議你, 口試對你更是重要, 只要學校願意給你口試的機會
流利, 穩健, 言之有物都是很加分的重點

不好意思, 又來廢話幾句了,

如果你真的很想進Top20的話, 說真的Gmat是蠻低的, 嚴格說起來以一個international student來說, 進Top20~Top30也不見百發百中, 不過還是有值得一試的空間, (不過順帶一提, 如果你以後想進Top20的consulting company or investment banking, 半數以上的公司, Gmat沒超過650以上不收)

最後有關Toefl, 多數Top20的學校, 多以這個當理由,不給你interview. 除非你口語超強, 這樣就算他們不給你interview, 你還可以主動打給他們, 主動跟他們要求.
所以要不要重考, 就看你自己摟, 不過說真的, 口語的表達, 比essay佔了更重的份量, 越top的學校越是如此.
