[建議]After GMAT, what's Next??

我想這對有考過或還沒有考過GMAT的人都蠻重要的

我想我們有時候對GMAT太過注重,反而忽略掉其他也是同樣重要的東西:essay 與 interview

不論我們GMAT考得多好,如果我們把essay and interview搞砸了,我們仍然無法一圓留學夢

雖然我們需要獨自完成自己的essay,但是仍有一些方法可以讓我們互相幫助,
讓我們離mba 夢想更近一步,因此,我打算成立一個toastmasters club分會

我個人看到的好處如下:

1. 這個組織是一個國際認可的club,我們可以把這個經歷寫在申請文件中的"課外活動", 許多亞洲學生在這個部分表現不突出,因為我們常常加班, 如果有多餘的時間,寧願花在另一半或家人上, 藉由加入toastmaster,我們就可以把"課外活動"那欄空缺給補上 ;)

2. 我的計畫是希望club members是給未來想去唸MBA的人，因此,我們可以調整聚會活動形式,以便符合我們的需要， 也就是說,我們可以模擬當我們去拜訪我們夢想的學校，參與他們實際教學的時候，該如何與學長和教授互動。或者我們可以模擬要跟一 群教授interview狀況， 抑或是我們可以預演如何在一群人面前給個英文演講, 這些都可使我們對未來的挑戰作更好的準備。 (Y)

3. 我們都知道去唸MBA就是要去建立人脈...所以為什麼不從現在開始?
我們永遠不會知道幾年後我們會為了一筆幾百萬美金的生意而打電話給誰喔 :P

I think this is important for those who have or have not done with their GMAT.

I think we sometimes focus too much on GMAT and loose sight on something which are equally important - essay and interview.

No matter how well we done in our GMAT exam, if we screw up our essay and interview, we can basically kiss our dream school good bye.

We might need to work out our essay individually, but there are a few ways we can further strengthen our inroad to business school
together. Thereby, I am founding a local toastmasters club.

The advantages I see are:

1. It is an international recognised club, we can put it on our application form under the extra curricular activities. Many asian applicants are
very weak in this part coz we normally work over time and prefer to spend times with our love ones or families if we have any excess time. By joining the club, we can fill in the void ;)


2. I plan to staff the whole club members with future MBAs only. In this way, we can tailor-make the club activities to suit our need, i.e. we
can simulate the situation which you visit your dream school, sit in for a class, interact with your potential seniors and lecturer, and
participate in the discussion or we can simply conduct mock interview to simulate you being interviewed by a group of professors. Last but
not least, we can also rehearse how you will be giving presentation in english infront of a bunch of people. Basically better prepare ourselves for the challenges ahead. (Y)

3. We all know MBA is about networking, so why not start now?
We never know who we gonna be friend with in the club. We never know who we might end up calling few years down the road for a
multi-million dollar deal :P

interview技巧也不好
只要想到考研究所時自己失敗的回答
都為之扼腕
但除了多多練習,搜 集 考 古 題之外 (連口試都有考古題...唉)
也沒有別的方法了

First of all, a very sincere thank you to those who emailed me.

We should be able to form the club formally soon. I am filling up some required documents at this moment :)

Just to share with you --

I just talked to my ex-boss. He went to do his MBA last year (he attended one of the best MBA school in Europe) and he is one of the
brightest person I ever met (GMAT: 780, TOEFL: 680), and yet he still think he had a hard time competing with his fellow MBA classmates
in terms of articulating his own opinions and defending his views, especially with those native english speakers. His comment actually makes
me wanted to establish the club ASAP and get ready for all those public speaking skills needed for my MBA course.

Anyway, no matter if you have done with your GMAT or not, you are always welcome to join our club. It is always good to be ready
sooner than later ;)
