1. Identify three significant aspects of the knowledge management strategy adopted by Siemens in their ShareNet initiative. What are 3 additional activities Siemens could have put in place to increase the quality of submissions/use of the system?
A:
1. reuse the past experience to accelerate decision-making
2. establish the platform with both character of codified and personalized data
3. make the system more instantaneous by offering the function of urgent request
2. Would you consider ShareNet to be a success? Justify your viewpoint.
A:
1. ShareNet made the knowledge management no more just a dictionary to look up,
but a platform to interact with other “experienced users” and is also with quality and reliable information.
2. By providing incentives to user, ShareNet found a effective way to pass the bottle neck of convincing users to use the platform to make decisions.
3. To integrate ShareNet into the existing company without strong refusing.
3. If you were responsible for making the decision on whether
or not (or how and where) to continue ShareNet, what would you decide? Explain the 3 primary pieces of information used to make this decision and why they were so important in leading to the decision outcome.
A: I will decide to continue ShareNet, and not to charge money to the users, but to start selling the existing platform to other companies so that even while the economic condition is not favored in Siemens, it can not only keep this successful system but also have another profitable source. And by selling the platform ShareNet can also continue improving the system then import the experience (about the system itself, not others’ confidential data) learned from other companies. Moreover since ShareNet help accelerate decision-making, and strengthen the bonding between local companies and the headquarter, less unnecessary meetings, actually keeping ShareNet is the right direction toward spending lees money and better company competitiveness.
