Q4:

Only seven people this century have been killed by the great white shark, the man-eater of the movies—less than those killed by bee stings.

movies—less than those
movies—fewer than have been
movies, which is less than those
movies, a number lower than the people
movies, fewer than the ones

這題我選D,誰能告訴我fewer跟lower的分別
上次OG的討論裡都把他歸類為表程度用
我在想說這題的a number是不是不能跟the people做比較,因為一個是數字一個是人,如果是the number of people我想便可

people可數所以要用few people...not less people....

另外回答M.L的問題 , for D , 用 a figure 會比 a number 好 ^^

接受micht的看法,fewer用來描述然較恰當,lower來描述人不就人很低....

同意魚用figure來表達一些統計數字比較恰當

ＣＤ有人把The Elements of style破哲號的用法,弄上來了,大家看一下
"Use a dash to set off anabrupt break or interruption and to announce a long appositive orsummary" (from "The Elements of Style".

ps.依稀記的有討論過,不過我在快速連結那找不到ㄋㄟ.....

mike 我下午回來找 , 但是我記得當時我對那次破折號的總結說法有點存疑

前幾天有在OG上看到活生生的破折號用法
