一開始我也覺得大家說的有理
但是仔細一看(D)改變句意哦
(A)說"被進口的moth"被一個科學家拿來做嘗試
(D)說"moth被科學家進口並拿來做嘗試"
題目可沒說moth是誰進口的
另外 題中的corssing A with B是補充說這個attempt的方法為何
至於attempt to/at都是可以的 大家查一下字典就知道
attempt to V 和 in attempt at Ving
一個表動作一個表狀態
所以不應該是選項裡沒有attempt to v就錯
有人可以討論一下覺得(A)那裡錯嗎?

就(A)、(D)句意來說，我認為(D)比較正確。
我看的點是在cross A with B 這裡：
cross A with B ' 使A與B雜交。

在(D)中，French scientist 使 gypsy moths 與adult silkworms 雜交(合理)；
在(A)裡，卻變成the gypsy moth 使gypsy moths 與 adult silkworms雜交(文法句意皆怪異)。

所以我會選(D)。

選項(A)中，我認為crossing應是當作the gypsy moth 的動詞(省略連接詞and 動詞改分詞)，所以(A)句意怪異。

至於說crossing是補充說明attempt的內容方法，我則不太懂：

因為是"a French scientist" 的attempt ，若要將crossing跟a French scientist 做連結，除非將 ,crossing 改為 and crossing 讓crossing及developing一起做 at 後面的V-ing。

突然想到，以前做題目也總認為(A)選項的內容一定代表正確的句意，其他選項內容不能與其違背。但是，有些題目中，(A)選項的句意是不合常理時，就不能選，也就是莫伯伯所說的修辭是考80%的句意，20%的文法。

嗯... 先講(D)的主詞好了
(D)的主詞是The gypsy moth沒錯
但是by crossing gypsy moths with adult silkworms.
是指French scientist 藉由使gypsy moths與adult silkworms雜交的方法(by crossing gypsy moths with adult silkworms)
去(attempting to) develop a strong strain of silk-producing insects。
所以by之後的東西都是French scientist的作為，而非The gypsy moth，故(D)沒有脫節問題。

2.
我記得分詞代替連接詞是這樣：
S + V1, and V2 ...
主詞相同，省略連接詞and並將動詞V2改為分詞
--> S + V1, V2-ing ...
