OG(11th) 46.

To Josephine Baker, Paris was her home long before it was fashionable to be an expatriate, and she remained in France during the Second World War as a performer and an intelligence agent for the Resistance.

(A) To Josephine Baker, Paris was her home long before it was fashionable to be an expatriate
(B) For Josephine Baker, long before it was fashionable to be an expatriate, Paris was her home
(C) Josephine Baker made Paris her home long before to be an expatriate was fashionable
(D) Long before it was fashionable to be an expatriate, Josephine Baker made Paris her home
(E) Long before it was fashionable being an expatriate, Paris was home to Josephine Baker

Correct Answer: (D)

A. To Josephine Baker… her is redundant and awkward; the subject of the first main clause is Paris rather than Baker.
B. For Josephine Baker… her is redundant and awkward…

To Josephine Baker… her / For Josephine Baker… her 會awkward?
For/To Anny, teaching is her favorite.

Paris.

(2)It is xxx for someone to do something

(3)印象中句首副詞片語to和for的用法通常是to+原V和for+N(這一點我不確定)

Long before it was fashionable to be an expatriate

(C) Josephine Baker made Paris her home long before to be an expatriate was fashionable
(D) Long before it was fashionable to be an expatriate, Josephine Baker made Paris her home

Josephine Baker (made Paris her home long before to be an expatriate) was fashionable (我認為distort)

Long before it was fashionable to be an expatriate, Josephine Baker made Paris her home

to be an expatriate was fashionable(跟原句一樣)

To Josephine Baker, Paris was her home long before it was fashionable to be an expatriate, andsheremained in France during the Second World War as a performer and an intelligence agent for the Resistance.

(A) To Josephine Baker, Paris was her home long before it was fashionable to be an expatriate
(B) For Josephine Baker, long before it was fashionable to be an expatriate, Paris was her home

請注意,在and後之主詞為she(=Josephine Baker),是人,而A.B選項裡,and前ㄧ句之主詞為Paris,是地方,降子前後主詞不ㄧ致,很不好~

例如:For/To Anny, teaching is her favorite and she work every day.
Anny loves teaching and she work every day.

open to discuss~

所以答案便是將Long before it was~ 往前移動,
Josephine made ~~ and she remained in France~~.

E) it was fashionable being an expareiate是完全不可以用Ving, 還是有某些情況可以這樣用?

顯見 OG 不喜歡 To/For 某人, ...

From Merriam-Webster
expatriate[transitive verb]
1 : banish, exile
2 : to withdraw (oneself) from residence in or allegiance to one's native country
[intransitive verb]
: to leave one's native country to live elsewhere; also : to renounce allegiance to one's native country
— ex·pa·tri·ate \ noun
— ex·pa·tri·a·tion \ noun
